2021 In Review

It’s been another strange year, but we’re delighted to share some of the events and experiences we curated as we continue to adapt to challenging conditions for the arts.

Sound Thought: Dawn (February 27 – 28)

We moved our concert series online and held an open call for audiovisual and sound art works under the theme of dawn, or new beginnings.

Sound Thought: Dawn presented nine pieces – you can catch up the two concerts below, or check out our beautiful programme designed by Beth.

Sound Thought: Metamorphosis (April 30 – May 2)

We continued with an open call for pieces that responded to metamorphosis (emergence, transition, shape-shifting, evolution), hosting two online concerts as well as an artist talk. It was great to present works from familiar artists and previous Sound Thought contributors, as well as some new faces from around the world.

The Dear Green Bothy Soundwalk

The Sound Thought committee members created a Soundwalk for The Dear Green Bothy in response to COP26, consisting of soundscape compositions which questioned our relationship with listening to the sounds around us, engaging with notions of acoustic ecology.

In September, we held artist-led Soundwalks as part of European Researchers’ Night – Explorathon, and again in November as part of The Dear Green Bothy.

You can check out the soundscape pieces here, which were designed to be listened to in-situ at various locations around the West End of Glasgow.

We also held a discussion with the Sound Thought committee, reflecting on the process of creating the soundscape compositions as well as the experiences of leading soundwalks:

Routed//In Green Channels

Beth Horseman created an interactive audiovisual installation hosted at the University of Glasgow as part of The Dear Green Bothy, exploring the symbiotic relationship between nature and technology.

Sound Thought 2017 Launch

The Sound Thought 2017 Committee is excited to launch our call for submissions.

http://www.soundthought.co.uk/call-for-submissions-2017/

The theme, “Labora[R]tio: Collaborate, Articulate, Integrate“, will be explored by exhibiting the work of postgraduate researchers, academics, and contemporary practitioners, contextualized by themes pertinent to the creative process exploring the intersections of music, sound, and other artistic genres.
